Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (LEAP)
The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant is a federally funded after school program that is designed to offer students a wide variety of programs, including but not limited to: academic enrichment linked to the Georgia Standards of Excellence and focusing on literacy and math, homework help, tutoring, personal enrichment and support activities that foster whole child development and parent engagement activities.
Students receive a nutritional snack each day and bus transportation is provided for students who reside within the zone of the school in which they attend the program. The program is open to all students at four schools (CMS/HES/MES/WGES), grades K-8 in the district but space is limited and an application is required (the online application can be found on the district’s Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC page https://www.walton.k12.ga.us/programs/21st-century-community-learning-centers). In the event space becomes limited, students are placed on a waiting list.
We strongly encourage families to participate in their child’s learning and offer parent events throughout the year. Program start and end dates as well as program closure dates can be found on the 2024-2025 Program Calendar that is also available on the district’s Nita. M. Lowey 21st CCLC page.
We work with community partners to provide support, learning opportunities and resources for our students. If you are interested in serving as a community partner please contact our Program Director, Dr. Freda Doster at freda.doster@walton.k12.ga.us or our Family Engagement Coordinator, Ms. Tish Fenn at tishia.fenn@walton.k12.ga.us.
